JOB PURPOSE:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to take ownership of critical cloud infrastructure initiatives and lead the team towards technical excellence. This role will focus on Azure Cloud services, Kubernetes management, cost optimization, automation, security compliance, and high-level database management. The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing the team’s technical skills and fostering growth while ensuring the infrastructure environment remains secure, efficient, and scalable.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Cloud Infrastructure and Environment Management

• Architect, implement, and maintain Azure-based cloud environments to ensure scalability, security, and high availability.
• Manage Kubernetes (K8s) clusters for seamless application deployment and performance optimization.
• Periodically review the current environment setup, identify areas of improvement, and implement upgrades or optimizations.

Cost Optimization and Management

• Monitor cloud resource utilization and implement strategies to minimize costs while maintaining performance.
• Develop cost analytics dashboards using tools like Azure Cost Management, Power BI, or Grafana.
• Provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders for budget management.

Automation and Process Efficiency

• Create and manage automation pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps.
• Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules using Terraform or ARM templates to standardize infrastructure provisioning.
• Drive initiatives to reduce manual work by implementing self-service tools for the team.

Database Management

• Oversee high-level database management tasks, including administration of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL and MongoDB in cloud environments.
• Design and implement backup strategies, high-availability configurations, and disaster recovery plans for mission-critical systems.

Security and Compliance

• Ensure the cloud environment complies with organizational and industry standards (ISO, SOC2, GDPR, etc.).
• Conduct periodic security audits, vulnerability assessments, and incident response drills.
• Implement role-based access controls (RBAC) and encryption mechanisms to enhance security.

Monitoring and Observability

• Set up and maintain monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Azure Monitor for infrastructure and application health checks.
• Perform proactive troubleshooting and root cause analysis for incidents.
• Implement monitoring standards to improve system observability and reduce downtime.

Team Technical Skills Review and Training

• Periodically assess the technical skill levels of L1 and L3 team members to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
• Develop and deliver training programs on cloud technologies, Kubernetes, security, and automation practices.
• Mentor team members in technical troubleshooting, process improvements, and stakeholder collaboration.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, application teams, and security teams, to align solutions with business objectives.
• Provide technical expertise and leadership in cross-functional projects.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Technical Skills

• Cloud Expertise: Strong experience with Azure Cloud services (VMs, AKS, Networking, Storage).
• Kubernetes: Advanced knowledge of managing, scaling, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters.
• Cost Management: Proficiency in cost optimization strategies and tools (Azure Cost Management, Power BI).
• Automation: Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates), and scripting (Bash, Python, or PowerShell).
• Database: Proficient in RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB) and familiarity with NoSQL databases.
• Security: Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, encryption, and compliance requirements.
• Monitoring: Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and Azure Monitor for observability.

Team Management and Leadership

• Ability to evaluate team members’ skills, define training plans, and provide mentorship.
• Proven experience in leading technical projects and driving collaboration across teams.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering roles, with a focus on Azure and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex environments, optimize costs, and improve operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications: Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or similar.
• Experience in multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP).

Familiarity with advanced analytics using tools like Power BI.
