The Role:
At Euroclear, a Senior Java Engineer will be responsible for helping engineer a large new Greenfield system in Java running on RedHat OpenShift. As the first senior developer in the newly formed Java Platform Team, you will have an ideal chance to influence the direction of the system and join in its design and delivery from the outset.
This will include developing, maintaining and supporting a common framework that will form the basis of the application suite and also mentoring and guiding delivery teams in the correct use of standards and methodologies.
This exciting new opportunity will involve working with the Lead Platform Engineer and delivery teams in the UK and abroad as well as Solution Architecture teams on a major modernisation change programme that will migrate the existing platform from a Mainframe to a modern Microservice, Event-Driven architecture in Java.
This role is best suited to someone who has very strong core Java skills as well as a solid understanding of the key technologies we will be using to rollout the new system. The ability to think outside of the box is also a key attribute.
Key responsibilities:
- Be central to the implementation of the target platform using Java, Kafka and related technologies, building scalable Microservices that utilise the Event-Driven Architecture paradigm
- Help recommend and document the targeted technologies in conjunction with the Solution Architecture and UK delivery teams
- Help ensure that the development framework e.g. coding guidelines, SDLC, architecture, principles and processes is followed by the delivery teams
- Work with our Cyber & Information Security team to enhance our security capabilities
- Help automate and streamline deployment, testing, and release processes using appropriate tools, building on what we already have and extending with new capabilities where helpful
- Help build and configure tools to monitor and optimise system performance and availability, helping engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise
- Help drive and manage the platform feature roadmap through collaboration with the UK delivery team, Solution Architecture and other stakeholders
- Interface with a small DevOps team to evolve the platform and provide efficiency-saving measures to the delivery teams
- Support framework and application code in production (level 3)
Technical skills required:
- A high-level of experience in Java development of enterprise applications is essential for this role, ideally 10+ years Java.
- Very strong core Java skills: threading, concurrency, collections framework, garbage collection etc.
- An in-depth understanding of how to write high-throughput applications.
- A thorough understanding of latency and how it affects applications and systems.
- In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker and Kafka.
- Sound knowledge of at least one RDBMS plus SQL.
- Strong Experience of using Spring Boot, Hibernate and JDBC.
- Experience of application profiling and performance tuning is highly desirable
- Experience of supporting production systems (level 3)
