Job Details

We are recruiting for a Social Work Assistant within the Young People’s Team, full time working 36 hours per week. 

The Young People’s Team provides a social work service to young people with lived experience of care as they transition to adulthood. As a Social Work Assistant in the team, you will be responsible for case planning, assessments, and compiling/reviewing plans aimed at helping young people successfully transition to independence from care. 

The Young People’s Team provides a social work service to Young Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers, which is an exciting development of the work the team are responsible for. As a social work assistant, you will be responsible for assessment and planning for these young people, supporting them through the processes required to progress asylum claims and compiling/reviewing plans to ensure needs are met. 

The Young People’s team provide a social work service to young people under 16 who commit offences. As a Social Work Assistant in the team, you will work collaboratively to complete offence focused assessments aimed at targeting interventions to reduce the likelihood of future offending. You will contribute to multi-agency risk management plans designed to reduce harm and reducing offending.   

The Young People`s Team also offer specialised assessment and intervention for young people who display sexualised behaviour.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced individual who has an interest in working with young people and can support them to achieve their potential. Successful candidates would need to have the skills to engage with young people with a range of experiences and needs.  

The Person

Undertaking thorough and informed comprehensive assessments of need and risk.  

Working individually and/or collaboratively to produce plans to support young people and their families.  

Assessing, managing, monitoring and reducing risks to service users and others.  

Carrying a caseload with varying complexity, requiring specialist skills and knowledge to enable appropriate and effective responses to the needs/risks of service users.  

Providing written reports as required, including informed recommendations concerning care/action plans.  

Attending meetings and case reviews.  

Updating and ensuring the accuracy of all relevant service user records and taking responsibility for the effective application of information management systems.  

Engaging and working in partnership with service users, family members, Police, Health, statutory/voluntary agencies and others as appropriate.  

Be involved in completing specialised assessments around risk aimed at reducing offending and targeting interventions designed specifically to reduce risk of harm.   

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
