In collaboration with Ministry of Interior (MOI), UNDP is dedicated to enhancing local security through citizen-centered policing strategies. Leveraging practical experience from community-based initiatives, UNDP mediates dialogues between grassroots communities and key MOI stakeholders, fostering a transition to a people-oriented police service. UNDP`s initiatives at six Model Police Stations have built trust in law enforcement, strengthening community cohesion. The aim is to institutionalize these successes into MOI policies, extending citizen-focused security measures beyond pilot stations.

UNDP aligns with Iraq`s 2018 "Local Police Service Road Map," endorsed by the Government, guiding post-ISIL security transition towards citizen-centric law enforcement. Expanding on this, UNDP assists MOI in developing a new strategy (2024-2026) to reinforce community security and trust in law enforcement nationwide. UNDP aims to refine policy frameworks, prioritize women`s inclusion, and ensure justice for all, including returnees.
