INSPIRE: Internship for New Scientists to Participate in Research promoting Equity 

Open to: Individuals interested in doing research to improve health equity for children from the perspective of psychology, public health, or a related discipline (including, but not limited to, undergraduate students) 

When: ~12-week program (second week of September – first week of December 2024) 

Where: The REACH (Research Expanding Access to Child Health) Center at Nemours Children Hospital, Delaware. This is a hybrid position that requires some time on site in Wilmington.  

About: 

The REACH Center is currently offering a paid internship program for individuals interested in gaining clinical research experience in topics surrounding health equity. The mission of the REACH Center is to develop, evaluate, and implement innovative interventions and models of care to overcome the complex social risk factors responsible for unequal access to healthcare and child health. Our investigators do this through community partnerships and use of technology. In this internship, individuals will have the opportunity to work directly on research studies supported by the REACH Center. Study topics include access to quality health and human services, emotional and behavioral health, risk and resilience, and managing medical conditions like diabetes, heart health, and pediatric cancer.  

Interns will be matched to multidisciplinary research teams and paired with a Nemours clinical research coordinator mentor based on their personal and professional interests. Day-to-day responsibilities will vary based on the research study, but common responsibilities include participant recruitment and engagement, data collection, and data analysis. Interns will have the chance to explore quantitative and qualitative research methods. Mentors will provide interns with supervision and support as they learn about clinical research and health equity. The goal of this program is to provide individuals with an opportunity to learn about research practices and help them create a professional path forward in clinical research.  

Requirements:  

Willing to commit to 10-12 hours of work per week for 12 weeks and be on site in Wilmington, DE for a portion of that time 

Able to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing; bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills strongly preferred. 

Able to effectively use Microsoft computer software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

Able to coordinate and establish priorities among diverse tasks. 

Compensation: $20 / hour (Students can also seek course credit through their universities)
