JOB TITLE: Project Assistant (Child Protection Case Worker)

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: 

He/she will be responsible for overseeing and mentoring partner on all activities related to community engagement, community feedback and complaint, awareness raising campaign and dissemination of key protection and MHPSS topics. He/she will guide partner on volunteer’s supervision and coaching, identify competency gaps and ways to improvement. He/she will work closely with PC to report PC on information and data of partner’s implementation and identify any concerns and risks to PC. Work with the child protection team to ensure close links with case management and community-based child protection mechanism and six grave violation monitoring and reporting mechanisms. Collaborate with other departments/sectors to ensure the implementation is on track according to the implementation plan.

Key accountabilities

  • Identify individual cases through regular presence in the community and accept referrals from other agencies and community partners.
  • Conduct initial (rapid) assessments for CP cases and prioritize them according to risk level.
  • Develop case plans that respond to needs addressed in rapid assessments and seek support of supervisor when necessary. 
  • Regularly monitor and support to children and families through home visits, providing guidance, advice and emotional support, community mediation and referrals.
  • Work with supervisors and managers to arrange case conferences for complex cases and ensure children receive multi-disciplinary support. 
  • Manage cases in line with SOPs, adhere to standard documentation processes and follow best practice guidance. 
  • Use the system established by the interagency database team to file all open and closed cases, or if necessary, use the system of filing to respond to local needs in coordination with the database coordinator. 
  • Build relationships with local communities, schools’ teachers, and service providers to identify and address child protection concerns.
  • Collaborate with MRM/GOSRCV focal and CPiE advisor to contribute to SC’s continued monitoring and reporting on the 6 grave violations against child rights.
  • Ensure community mobilization, and coordinate with the stakeholders at the assigned areas. 
  • Ensure the quality of child protection services to children and the community
  • Any other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor and coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or equivalent experiences.   
  • At least one year experience working in child protection, CP case management is desirable
  • Ability to work in a high-conflict environment with sensitivity and cultural awareness.
  • Ability of using computer is preferable. 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 

Essential Desirable 

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in implementing child protection case management, caring for child survivor of sexual abuse is an asset.. 
  • At least 1 year in implementing and working with children. 
  • Understand child development and well-being, Effective listening, speaking, and written communication skill with children. 
  • High motivation to work under difficult circumstances.   
  • Understanding and experiences in establishing networking and coordinating and strengthening referral mechanism at a community, interagency and institutional level.   
  • In case of emergency, Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Previous experience working for an NGO or other non-profit organization, is an asset.   
  • Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively in a team environment & independently.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles. 
  • A commitment to children’s rights, children’s participation and non-discrimination. 

Skills and Experience:  

  • At least 1-year experience in Child Protection program, case management is desirable. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and wellbeing skills with children and parents.
  • Ability to work in a high-conflict environment with sensitivity and cultural awareness. 

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education level 

Communication and Technical Skills  

  • Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure 
  • Willingness to travel to field and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements 

General: 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children 
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.

  • Be vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm in their personal and professional lives.
